APEC SME Business Forum 2014  Held in Nanjing

APEC SME Business Forum 2014 was successfully held in Nanjing on September 2. The Forum is one of the most important sideline events of the 21st APEC SME Ministerial Meeting. Mr. Zhu Hongren, the Head of China Delegation to the 21st APEC SME Ministerial Meeting and Chief Engineer of MIIT, as well as Mr. Li Zhuobin, the Vice President of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, attended the opening ceremony and delivered their opening addresses. The Forum attracted over 200 delegates from all 21 APEC economies, including business leaders, experts and scholars.

Mr. Zhu Hongren exchanged his views with the participating delegates on the current economic situation of China. He pointed out that Chinese SMEsí» future development will benefit from reform, innovation , transformation, upgrading and opening cooperation. He also introduced the policies and initiatives taken by the Chinese government in supporting of SME innovation. Mr. Zhu Hongren emphasized that SMEs are the source of prosperity and employment in the Asia-Pacific region. China aspires to work with other member economies to give full play to the bridging and linking role of APEC SME Business Forum, to expand space for exchanges, deepen pragmatic cooperation and boost the innovative development of SMEs in the region.

Mr. Huang Bilie, Chairman of the Presidium of the Forum, CFO and Vice President of Sinotrans & CSC Holdings, Co., Ltd., made an opening speech. At the Forum, the entrepreneurs, scholars and experts from China, the United States, Canada, HongKong, China(HKC), New Zealand, and other economies conducted broad discussions and exchanges around the theme of í░Innovation and Sustainabilityí▒ on hot topics such as service system, E-commerce, intellectual property, supply chain management, and business ethics.

Dr. Qin Zhihui, Director General of China Center for Promotion of SME Development and Prof. Chi Renyong, President of SME Institute of Zhejiang University of Technology, released China SME Development Report 2014 and China Business Climate Index for SMEs 2014 respectively during the Forum.

The SME Business Forum is a platform for the dialogues between the business community and the government. Based on the speeches and discussions in the Business Forum and upon the consensus of delegates of the member economies, the APEC SME Business Forum 2014 Recommendations will be submitted to the 21st APEC SME Ministerial Meeting which will be held on Sep. 5, 2014. It will speak out the voices on behalf of the APEC business community to the APEC Ministers responsible for SMEs.

The Forum are supported by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Peopleí»s Republic of China and the Peopleí»s Government of Jiangsu Province, and organized by China Centre for Promotion of SME Decelopment (ProSME China), China International Cooperation Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (CICASME), APEC SME Servive Alliance (APEC SMESA), in collaboration with the Economic and Scientific Department of All-China Federation of Retured Overseas Chinese.
